Down Time

"Achievement comes through activity"
Is the fallacy many accept
To be progressing means to be working hard
Is the cry of the intellect

But that does not always ring true
Great inspirations can come from releasing
The need to always be working on something
And accepting instead of personal "Down Time"

Our breakthroughs may seem subtle
Almost insignificant over time
But don't downplay their importance
For it is here that real growth can occur

Like deciding to say "no" to social engagements
Or taking time off from your exercise routine
Reflecting instead on your own state of being
Can open up a new world of opportunities

Trusting "this place" can be tough
We've bought into drive, drive, drive
Can we really achieve by doing nothing?
The answer is easier than you could believe

By removing ourselves from our normal activities
By taking out our daily distractions
We are faced with the "real me"
The person we may not know that well

It's at this level that change takes place
That we finally see the beauty in our face
That others have seen for such a long time
But one we've neglected, we've pushed away

At our inner core
We find a person we will adore
It rarely happens in our daily lives
Until we take this Down Time

I'm not the first to find this truth
But the burden of evidence is now on you
To take the time and trust in its space
Will open up a life, currently hidden from view
