The following is from the 151 writings on love, intimacy and the path to inner peace from David's book, Phoenix Soul: One Man's Search for Love & Inner Peace © 1998 David Essel

The Key to Life

Regardless if we are rich or poor
We are all looking for the same door
In which inner turmoil tends to cease
The door behind which lies inner peace

We tend to forget we are all alike
From the old woman, to the lil' tike
Scratching and searching for a comfortable place
In which we find our own precious space

Some will say it's all very easy
At that thought others get queasy
It doesn't matter how you get there
But it does require that you really care

Care enough to give your all
Care enough to stand tall
Wanting to know why you are here
And going after it with minimal fear

Finding this door relies on trust
Going alone often turns to bust
Asking others for help and love
Allows you to face difficulty and rise above

So go out and recruit the best
About friends and support I would not jest
For finding your way with others around
Allows us all the love in which to abound

This is the key to life
